One805Live! 2021
Event highlights

One805 came roaring back from lockdown with a perfectly executed, sold-out event that was just the right combination of class, emotion, and world class entertainment. The One805Live! event, held at the stunning Winn-Twining estate, featured Danny Seraphine of Chicago and Robby Krieger of the Doors, and was a knockout success. Strict COVID protocols at the outdoor venue ensured a safe environment to have a wonderful time. From start to finish, the mission of supporting First Responders was achieved at every turn. The event sold out in three short weeks, and premium sponsors made significant donations to ensure the success of both the night, and the cause. Outstanding food by Via Maestra, incredible music, a wonderful VIP experience, a rousing bagpipe introduction including “America the Beautiful”, and a short program focused on supporting First Responders made it a night to remember.

Giving the first ever “Heart of the Community” awards, the board of One805 honored Alan Parsons, Kim Cantin, and Ashley Iverson for their contributions to One805 and the broader community. Alan Parsons has tirelessly supported many worthy causes in our community, including the Kick Ash Bash. Kim Cantin, an inspiration to us all, lost her husband and son in the debris flow; Ashley Iverson, who lost her husband fighting the Thomas Fire, was also presented with a check from One805 for The Iverson Foundation for Active Awareness, which focuses on the mental health of First Responders. Lynda Weinman designed and created the beautiful and unique 3D printed ceramic awards that were presented to recipients.

Four hundred of the County’s elite and glamorous, dressed in Rock ‘n Roll chic, came together at the fabulous Winn-Twining Estate in Montecito. We were there to have fun of course; but this year with the fires burning so relentlessly to the north of us (and, more recently, at Alisal), our emphasis was on Firefighters. For those of us at the Winn-Twining estate that night, how lucky we were! What a truly stunning home, and what an extraordinarily generous family. They did not only open their home to the event, but were very much part of our team, helping our vendors and volunteers make the evening happen in whatever way they could. To mark the start of the party, a bell tolled 23 times, to symbolize the lives lost in 2018. Then, members of the Gold Coast Pipe Band from Camarillo, splendidly attired in kilts, with bagpipes blowing and drums beating, marched through the crowd. One805 President Richard Weston Smith welcomed guests with a reminder of how it all began: “Although it was an event that tore Montecito apart” he said, “it was also a moment when we all came together; as a community, and as one 805.” Chief Hartwig spoke on behalf of the assembled First Responder Department chiefs, saying “fire fighters are on the lines right now 30 days at a time. They get two or three days off and then they are either back at the station or they are deploying back to another fire.”

One805 Co-founder Eric Phillips told of his inspiration too: “Our neighbors house burned down, but our house was saved. I’m looking at their faces here. We are so grateful, and tonight is an appreciation for all of you who provide funding, so we can buy them better equipment to allow them to do a better job”. John Thyne

Two full sets from two major headliners is a first for Santa Barbara non profit events. Opening the show, Danny Seraphine and his incredible band gave us the classic Chicago numbers. Fronted by uber-talented singer Tony Grant, and featuring their famous horn section, how we wished this amazing set went on for even longer. And on this stunning, warm September evening, it couldn’t have been more perfect. It’s no surprise that Danny is one of the top 100 drummers in the world, and sure enough, he stepped up and gave us a solo that knocked it out of the park. Thank you, Danny!

Robby Krieger, playing his second gig for One805, again brought the house down. A legend in his own right, this time he was playing for us in the 50th anniversary year of The Doors music. By the time he was half way through his first number, Light My Fire, half the audience were on the stage. They stayed there as hits like Love Me Two Times, Break on Through and Riders on the Storm rolled off his guitar until, finally, LA Woman closed the show out, much to the delight of the crowd.
